la collina viognier 2014
In the midst of replanting quite a bit of the lower la collina vineyard area to Chardonnay, we did retain a few rows (eight) of Viognier in order to make this wine and have Viognier to coferment with our Syrah.
2014 la collina Viognier is predominantly Viognier but it does include a small amount of Chardonnay. The fruit was hand-picked and whole bunch pressed straight to barrel with no settling. There was no yeast inoculation but rather, fermentation by indigenous yeasts in very old barrels. The wine remained in the barrels on lees until removal for bottling.
The 2014 la collina Viognier has the traditional floral aromatics of Viognier, hints of Jasmine and Citrus blossom. The rich, lush palate is held together with the spine of Chardonnay, giving it a tighter line through the middle.
This wine is drinking well now and will continue to develop over the next four to six years.
"A wine that must be experienced."
