Hawke's Bay Wine Growing Region
Hawke's Bay is situated half way down the east coast of the North Island and is one of the lowland areas in the lee of the rocky backbone of mountains that stretch from the East Cape in the north to Cook Strait in the south. Hawke's Bay is very sunny but the maritime influence tempers hot summer days and permits a long growing season. Hawke’s Bay is often called the fruit bowl of New Zealand. It is the second largest wine region in the country.
