la collina
la collina - (Italian) the hill
The la collina vineyard is a steep, terraced and incline planted hillside vineyard on the North/Northwest facing slopes of Roys Hill, west of Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand.
The hillside is protected from the cooling effects of the southerly winds and during the growing season the vineyard is bathed in sunshine.
The hillside terraces are planted to Syrah (and a few other interesting Varieties) whilst the lower slopes and gravels flat are planted to Chardonnay and Viognier/Marsanne/Roussanne.
We purchased this property in 1997 and began planting (from the top down) in 1998.
The first vintage of la collina Syrah was in 2002.

Kaikora Vineyard
Kaikora is the original name for the town of Ōtāne in Central Hawke’s Bay. The name was changed to avoid confusion with Kaikōura in the South Island.
Central Hawke’s Bay is known for the ancient Pakohe (argillite) forming the basis of the soil type. Kaikora Vineyard is planted on pakohe soils with clone UCD15 Chardonnay on its own roots.

Trelinnoe Vineyard
Trelinnoe (tree-lin-o) Vineyard on Roys Hill is named for
the owner’s historical ties to Cornwall in the UK.
The Roys Hill hillside is predominantly sandstone over limestone with clone UCD15 Chardonnay planted on the terraces and Syrah planted on both the lower flat and the upper reaches of the hill.

Two Terraces Vineyard
Overlooking the Ngaruroro River and inland from the Heretaunga Plains the vineyard sits on the Mangatahi terraces, shaped by the Ngaruroro River approximately 15,000 years ago.
The soils here are a silt/sand loam running to depths of 20-40cm and were laid down by the river's ancient flows, along with windblown loess and some volcanic influence from the North Island's Central Plateau.
The front label is a stylised representation of the aerial
view of the vineyard.
