2024 Two Terraces Vineyard Chardonnay
A single vineyard Chardonnay from Two Terraces Vineyard in Mangatahi, further inland than the Roys Hill vineyards. The Mangatahi terraces were shaped by the Ngaruroro River approximately 15,000 years ago.
Two Terraces Vineyard Chardonnay is a part of our project to highlight some of the most unique, single vineyards in Hawke’s Bay. This vineyard is owned by Ian and Linda Quinn.
The soils here are a silt/sand loam running to depths of 20-40cm and were laid down by the river's ancient flows, along with windblown loess and some volcanic influence from the North Island's Central Plateau. These soils sit above so-called alluvial red metals. The Chardonnay clone is 548.
This is the first release for this single vineyard wine.

"The 2024 Two Terraces Vineyard Chardonnay is spicy and fulsome… The wine is textural and abundantly phenolic, with loads of fruit here – peach, pear, apple, licorice (sic) and white pepper. This is a great wine."
"Restrained and floral, this energetic, silky chardonnay is at once punchy and elegant. The crisp apple and lime flavours unfold to reveal orchid, orange blossom and grapefruit pith, arrayed across the palate in an almost ethereal way before tightening up to saline, seashell phenolics on the finish. Beautifully detailed and light on its feet; everything is perfectly balanced, giving the impression of effortless grace. There is plenty of underlying structure so this will easily age for a decade, gaining nutty and savoury nuances with time."
